Carmen

Our History

A milestone in the wine world occurred in 1994, when Carménère (a grape variety long thought extinct) was rediscovered at our property in the Maipo Valley. This grape variety has become synonymous with Chile, and Viña Carmen is one of its main champions.

With over 170 years of winemaking heritage, we have undergone Renaissance and in 2018, as part of our focus to ‘Reinvent the Classics’, we partnered with The Frida Kahlo Foundation to produce a limited-edition range of wines.

Our Winery

Carmen has over 500 hectares planted in the best winegrowing valleys in Chile, with its home in the renowned Alto Maipo Valley.

Our Gran Reserva Range showcases each of its grape varieties from the best single vineyard sites across the country.

Our DO range (Diversos Orígenes) sees Head Winemaker Emily Faulconer focus on small, family run vineyards: those producing limited quantities of grapes, with traditional techniques handed down from generation to generation.

Carmen Gran Reserva Carignan 2014

“Aromas of blackberry and stone with hints of fresh herbs. Full body, focused center palate and pretty, ripe and mineral undertones. Delicious finish. Polished Carignan. Drink or hold.” 93 Points – James Suckling
